Oops...Second Entry.
Some nice things are happening.
I did a 6 page tutorial on Steampunk painting for the "Official Painter Magazine" on my Steampunk Alice painting (for the CG Society Steampunk Myth and Legends Challenge) and I also got the honor of being on the cover. The issue should be on sale May 21st. I also did a Q&A for them in the issue of the following month. One of the questions is "How do you paint Martial Arts"! I have a pin-up for "Hustler Magazine" (yes the porn one) coming out in July. I'm in the process of painting another one for them. I'm also going to have the featured gallery in the September issue of "Heavy Metal", on sale in July during the San Diego Comic Con. This will be a nice boost for me since I'm going to be at the convention. I'm sharing a table with Pocket Heroes. I've got a piece in this year's "Erotic Signature" (I'm in the previous 2 volumes) and will have 2 pieces in the Undressed Tour (traveling erotic art exhibit) this year. I have a CD cover for my friend's band, Metal Knights. They are an upcoming band that opened for Judas Priest. My friend is the lead singer and he used to be my co-worker when we worked at Transcontinuity in Burbank for Neal Adams. I'm working on a painting for my friend's book, Drakaina. She is a French Fantasy model. I did a painting for her "Drakaina - A Fantasy Muse" that came out last year. So, knock on wood, I've been pretty lucky this year.
I'm back in Kung Fu. No sparring for me. Just forms and the occasional technical sparring, which isn't as fun. I've done martial arts since 1994. I have 2nd degree black belt in Budoshin Ju Jitsu and a 1st degree black sash in Northern Eagle Claw Kung Fu. I'm starting to improve on my butterfly kick, which was never good before I broke my ankle. I think I'm doing it well 60% of the time. I need to learn how to do it continuously. I'm learning Wushu broadsword and Bagua double deer-horn knives (I actually made them into guns for Drakaina's painting). I just learned Mantis broadsword, which is a cool form, but I will have to practice it a dozen times a day to make it look good. I'm trying to put in a split towards the end, but will have to learn how to jump out of it better. I'm also learning a 2-men Ching na set (locking and nerve strikes).
My friend, Samara Simmerman, and I are in the midst of finishing our screen writing endeavor. Our script is called Alexis Blade and it's a combination of martial arts and science fiction with a female protagonist. We've been working on this project for about 4 years now, and she moved to Indiana. Luckily we have gotomypc installed and it is the coolest thing since sliced bread.
I'm working at TYS Creative and I do graphic design for a living. We are currently developing a character for Toshiba Direct.com. I worked on secretlivesofsnowmen.com last year for their holiday campaign and photo-manipulated all the snowmen paintings for them. It's a pretty fun concept.
My husband is a 3D animator who worked on Battlestar Galactica, Terminator: Sarah Conner Chronicles, the Fringe, and CSI. He's very talented and we met at jury duty. We have an aussie named Freckles and a new sheltie puppy named Ripley (after Sigourney Weaver's character in Aliens.) She loves to rip things up when we are not at home.
My new favorite website is librivox.org where you can download free audio books of famous classical novels in the public domain. The Three Musketeers is my favorite novel of all time and a lot of other works by Alexandre Dumas is there online. I love listening to stories while I work.
That's the lowdown on me...
